Police have named Roger McGill as the man killed by lightning near Dargaville on Tuesday.
The Radio New Zealand website describes him as “well-known in his younger days as a writer and a director at Auckland’s Theatre Corporate.”
The Herald reports he was “understood to have had an active involvement in Auckland’s theatrical scene.”
This forum has been opened for those wishing to remember his contribution to professional theatre in Auckland – or anything else about him.

I remember Roger as an energetic and enthusiastic colleague at Theatre Corporate when he joined in, I think it was, 1978. I only did a couple of shows with him – ‘Pip’s Magic Circus of Clowns’ and ‘ A Unicorn for Christmas’ – and recall he brought a range of private sector-like skills to that wonderful theatre company. I am saddened to hear of his death – and shocked by the nature of it – and send my sympathies to his family and friends. Haere ra, Roger.
