OLD SOCKS FUNDRAISING AUCTION 29/11
Two languages on stage
Odd Socks Productions is holding a fundraising auction at the Wellington Deaf Club on Saturday 29 November for a play it is performing at the Fringe Festival in February and then during New Zealand Sign Language Week in May.
Opening at 7pm, the auction will include body products, wine, movie vouchers, and much more. It’s also a chance for people to learn more about the play, and talk to cast and crew.
Director Nicola Clements says the devised work was inspired by the play Romeo and Juliet. The cast of six includes two actors who are Deaf.
"We want to take away the barrier of an interpreter so that both cultures – the hearing and the Deaf – can experience the play on an equal footing," Nicola says. "We think this will be the first time in Wellington – if not in New Zealand – where New Zealand Sign Language and the English language are equal and integral parts of the play."
The Wellington Deaf Club is located on ground level at 32 Marion St. Entry by gold coin. The bar will be open and food will be on sale. No Eftpos available.
