Dean Hewison posted 16 Feb 2009, 08:17 AM / edited 16 Feb 2009, 09:28 AM
Last night there were 6 premieres of new plays in the last heat of Two Day Plays:
BabyshadS – Bottles & Cans So Clap Your Hands, Just Clap Your Hands
The Wet Ones – 1986
Wellington High School – Snout
Uxorious – Entry
Newtown Ghetto Anger – The Places In Between
And after a mid-competition pull-out, Simon Smith came to the rescue with an improvised solo work – “The Ultimate Challenge”.
The judging panel, consisting of Jean Betts, Murray Lynch, Bevin Linkhorn and Michael Wray, have selected BabyshadS and Wellington High School to continue forward to the final, where they’ll spend the weekend making another brand new play. They also chose the wildcard finalist: Newtown Ghetto Anger.
Congratulations to all teams for their achievements. Next Sunday there will be six teams competing for many individual prizes, as well as the major prize of rehearsal space, poster printing and distribution, script assessment and consultation, plays and wine. Bookings via www.downstage.co.nz/book or 801 6946.
