RECHARGE: THE GATHERING, Wellington 9 to 14 April 2009    

The draft programme for Recharge: The Gathering is now online at the Magdalena Aotearoa web site.

This year the Gathering features seven work-in-progress presentations, by artists Madeline McNamara, Challen Wilson, Pauleen Hayes, Judith Jones, Jade Valour, Jaki Trolove and Cathy Allison. The works range from solos to ensembles; script readings to visual arts based work; embryonic work to almost ready for production; and cover a wide variety of themes and topics.

Alongside the work-in-progress presentations there will be daily vocal training, panel discussions, video screenings, artist’s presentations and a trip to WPAC to see "The Bonekeeper" by Helen Moran. A theme running through the whole event will be "writing about the work" – writing about our own and others’ work, writing feedback, criticism and reviews, how and why to write, and where to publish. Some of this writing will be published online via a blog during the Gathering.

The Gathering provides a rich and inspiring experience for all participants, whether presenting a work-in-progress or responding to the work; free time is kept aside for networking and spontaneous workshopping or discussion opportunities. Every participant contributes importantly in some way and gets something back.
