DIRECTOR OF PLAYMARKET:
APPLICATIONS SOUGHT FOR POSITION

Director of Playmarket, New Zealand’s playwrights organisation, Mark Amery has announced he will be stepping down in February next year. The organisation are calling for applications for the position by 5pm Friday October 30.

"I feel like I’m leaving the organisation already in strong hands, both at staff and board levels," says Mark. "I’m very proud of the growth the organisation’s had in recent years and the new director will be inheriting an organisation with a strong sense of its vision and purpose in an exciting environment for our best New Zealand playwrights."

Playmarket is New Zealand’s playwrights’ agency and playwright development service.  We have a staff of six working from offices in Auckland and Wellington.  In addition to the agency service, we offer a range of playwright and script development services including readings, workshops, conferences and competitions, together with various publishing and information services.

Applications are being sought for the position of Director of the organisation.  The role is currently based in Wellington.  As Director, you will report to the Board and will be responsible for the strategic, operational and financial direction of Playmarket. 

In the role you will have a unique and exciting opportunity to increase the number of quality plays being produced on the professional stage.  Strong interpersonal skills are required.  You will be representing, and providing agency services to, New Zealand’s leading client playwrights.

Key Attributes sought include:

  • Experience in a leadership role both from a strategic and operational point of view
  • A wide knowledge and understanding of the issues, priorities and activities within the theatre industry
  • Ability to network with related organisations and to build new partnerships
  • Knowledge and skill in financial management and planning
  • Ability to instill confidence and maintain credibility with key stakeholders
  • Experience in negotiation and problem solving, including risk management and critical thinking
  • Proven marketing and promotional skills
