ENROL NOW FOR SUMMER SCHOOL 2010 – MÂORI CONTEMPORARY DANCE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WAIKATO

Māori Contemporary Dance papers are now in 2010 Summer School offerings, including the NEW summer semester which runs in November 2010.
These papers are currently taught by Terri Crawford who recently appeared in Kete Aronui – A Kiwa Media Series on Contemporary Māori Artists for Māori Television. Terri is also the Advisor for the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship – Māori Creative and Performing Arts and is keen to hear of anyone interested in this opportunity.
All classes are held in state of the art studios at The Wel Energy Trust Academy of Performing Arts, Te Whare Tapere It. This facility boasts one of the most prestigious performing arts venues in Aotearoa. These papers can contribute to a Major in Tikanga Māori/Māori Cultural Studies or the NEW Bachelor of Media and Creative Technologies degree with a Major in Creative Practice.

TIKA153-10S Mahi Whakaari Hou: Performing Arts – A Contemporary Perspective
This is an introduction to the contemporary development of Māori song and dance. Content will include performance, movement, voice, choreography and research methodologies.
Date: Monday 25th January to Friday 12th February 2010
(Classes will run daily from 9am to 3pm, with some evening rehearsals and performance to be scheduled)
Venue: Te Whare Tapere Iti (PA4), The Wel Energy Trust Academy of Performing Arts, Gate 2B Knighton Rd, Hamilton.
Assessment: Internally assessed
Summer School applications for this paper must be submitted by 1 December 2009.
