FORTUNE THEATRE TRUST DUNEDIN 
INVITATION TO DIRECTORS FOR THE 2010 SEASON  

The Fortune Theatre invites expressions of interest from qualified and experienced Theatre Directors who are interested in directing one or more productions in our Autumn/Winter 2010 season.

The productions requiring directors are: The 39 Steps, adapted by Patrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchan and the movie by Alfred Hitchcock, and Lee Hall’s dramatisation of The Adventures of Pinocchio

Rehearsals for The 39 Steps commence April 26, with the production opening May 21 and closing June 12, 2010.

Rehearsals for The Adventures of Pinocchiocommence May 31, the production opening June 25 and closing July 17, 2010.

The Fortune operates a four week rehearsal period (including production week) with the usual six day rehearsal schedule being Monday to Saturday. Productions open on the Friday or Saturday evening of the fourth week. The fee is $4,200 (gross) per play and there is accommodation and travel assistance for directors who reside outside Dunedin.

Applications must be received by Friday February 19, 2010.

A separate application should be submitted for each production for which you wish to be considered. You will be advised as to the result of your application no later than the end of Monday March 1, 2010.

Electronic copies of the plays are available from the Fortune Theatre. Please contact Karen Elliot KarenE@fortunetheatre.co.nz and a copy of the play will be forwarded to you via email. (Hard copies are not available).

In your application please provide an indication of how you view the play and what elements are necessary for you to stage a successful production. Please indicate any casting that would be central to your production. You are free to approach actors to ascertain their availability but you should make it clear that such an approach does not constitute an offer of work, which can only be made by the Fortune Theatre. Curriculum Vitaes and current headshots for actors who you may approach can be included with your application. Casting can be constrained by budgets and a copy of the confidential production budget can be made available. The Fortune Theatre reserves the right to pre-cast plays.

The Fortune employs a set and costume designer to work with you on your production, along with lighting/sound design and stage management staff. If you have any other requirements (live music, composition, specialist design) please make this known at the time of application along with any related fee quotations.
