ARTISTS CALLED TO DEFINE THE NEXT AUCKLAND FRINGE

The second installment of the Auckland Fringe is hurtling towards us, in 6 months time the Fringe will be unleashing its unique charm upon audiences, and it’s time for artists to step forward!

Artist registration will open on August 13th 2010, inviting performers and visual artists to sign up for the completely open access Auckland Fringe programme – only rules are that it doesn’t break any laws and can be considered art – with events happening right across the Super City!

The debut Auckland Fringe in 2009 saw 75 shows performed by 900 artists, in over 30 locations from Piha to Pakari, and the 2011 season is looking to surpass those figures and present an even more diverse and varied programme. Acting as an umbrella for all works weird and wonderful, the 2009 Fringe saw a range of performances including work from a Heroic Fawn, a laser light show on Lion Rock, a murder tour through Myers Park and dancers in rush hour traffic!

A true success story of the Auckland Fringe was THE HEIGHT OF THE EIFFEL TOWER VARIES BY 8CM DEPENDING ON THE TEMPERATURE, the fresh and defiant one woman show, performed by the irrepressible Morgan O’Reilly and directed by Abigail Greenwood, has now been invited to perform at this year’s  New York Fringe Festival.

In essence, Auckland Fringe is a platform where anything goes, and usually does. Will this year see the envelope pushed even further? For two months, performers across the spectrum will have a chance to stake their claim for next year’s festival with an edge.

Artist registrations close October 15th 2010.
