AUDITION CALL for HURAI,

Rehearsing from Jan. 28; Performing Wellington, Feb. 28 – Mar. 3, early evening.

Synopsis: Set in early 19th century NZ & modelled on the Greek tragedy, The Bacchae, the play explores the emotional consequences for individuals in a clash of religious & cultural values.

PAPA – age 45+, a Maori seer & cult-leader
THOMAS KEENE – 30-40, an English missionary
AGNES KEENE – 20-30, his young wife
ALEXANDER WILLIAMS – 50+, a lay missionary
PITA – 15-18, Maori, servant & pupil at the mission
CHORUS – 2 young Maori women & 1 young Maori man, workers & ‘trainees’ at the mission & followers of Papa
