Sir Peter and Fran buy building for Bats

This is fabulous news. Performance-wise Bats is Wellington’s creative crucible. Given how much of that finds its way to Miramar, this is an excellent investment in sustaining Wellington’s creative capital.

In the early days of Bats, Tim Balme and Michael Galvin starred in the play Blue Sky Boys. While the play itself went onto tour extensively both their careers took off exponentially.
Balme hit the big screen as a hapless young man fighting off zombies with lawnmowers, in Peter Jackson’s Braindead. Since then he has alternated movies with appearances on TV’s Mercy Peak, Shortland Street and Maddigan’s Quest. [More]

Does this mean that all the plays at BATS will have to be in 3D now?

I think most plays are in 3D, although there are some I’ve seen where the characters are very much one dimensional!
