Yes! This could be the policy that puts ACT back on the map!

Colin Craig said in the NZ Herald dated today that he never said what he said at all and that Theatreview is cheapening political debate in New Zealand so they can expect to hear from his lawyers. Rumours about him and Paula Bennett ‘getting into bed together’ in Albany were scullilous and the photographs that appeared on his Facebook page were not him at all but Peter Dunne photoshopped. When questioned he said the only thing he’d raised in the past year was the standard of debate. As for arts policy Craig said that the Conservative Party had a large collection of Christine Rankin’s earrings that he kept in a box under his bed and that was enough for them. When questioned about the $550m he’d donated to the party Craig said ‘what party? We don’t have parties. That’s Kim Dotcom who does that. And he has a autographed copy of ‘Mien Kampff. So what’ he said ‘my bible is a first edition and signed by the author. I guess that’s art too.’

Just got a call from someone purporting to be Winston Peters, ranting about the tyranny of alphabetic order which is clearly a moronic media conspiracy to keep New Zealand First below the radar. “People call me the dinosaur of politics,” he said, “but the reality is I am the elephant, I am in the room and I have a long memory. At the end of the day you have not heard the last of this.”

Does Labour’s ‘Estate to State’ policy apply to overseas playwrights’ works? Will new New Zealand wrighters benefit everytime a Shakespeare show is produced here? If not, why not?

Yes, Michael, my sources say absolutely – that is the whole idea of the long dead writers et al royalty. “The royalty system incentivises the production of works out of copyright and this policy will level the playing field,” a Labour spokesperson said. “More needs to be done to get more original NZ work on our stages and in our concert halls. This policy is one step towards achieving this.”

Live performance is a dead duck you nationalistic dummköpfe! Everything needs to go straight to the Web uploaded in encrypted form by registered clients to a mega site that makes it all free to everyone because our founder is the Daddy Santa of the 21st century. All reality is virtual now. The globe is our oyster.

The list seems to have overlooked the Aotearoa Gucci Socialist Right-to-Party-After-All-Live-Performance-Events and Boldly Go-Where-Current-Parties-Do-Not-Go Party. Not many people know about this Party yet but they will soon when it is announced in a couple of weeks time. Currently it has no artist willing or eligible to stand for election as its members are staggering around in a permanent dazed and confused state but in a couple of weeks time there is resolve to nail down a volunteer. Infighting about the length of the Party’s name, its lack of ideas on how these parties should be subsidised and the incessant round of parties that is embedded in the constitution are also causing a slight hiatus in party formation. Nevertheless once these minor glitches have been ironed out, then we’ll see who really runs this country!

I, also, have been communicating with Winston. I asked him some pertinent questions and his response was ‘read my lips’. I tried, but as we were emailing at the time it wasn’t easy.

Oh dear me. I don’t suppose that Labour lot care two hoots about the Eketahuna & Environs Gilbert & Sullivan Society and its increasingly threadbare oily rag, because they know we don’t vote for them. And are the Greens going to penalise us for attracting audiences from far afield where no public transport exists (except for the Tui Brewery tanker run)? But back to reality – I am horrified to read that that nice Mr Key will sell out to Act, but good show Theatreview for alerting us to this inevitability just in time for us to hold back the funds we had planned to invest in Genesis.
PS: My husband Wilfred wishes to know why wainwrights – long dead or alive – have never received the same recognition and support as playwrights.

Thank you all for the great contributions – some very good laughs in there. Let’s see how much proves to be prescient. Happy April 1 to all.

To be honest Lexie, I barely see his lips moving when I can see his face. That’s why it’s harder to tell when he’s lying than with other politicians.
