CIRCA THEATRE OPENS ITS DOORS FOR 2014 WELLINGTON OPEN DAY SUNDAY, 25 MAY!

Circa Theatre is happy to announce that it will take part in the 2014 Wellington Open Day on Sunday, 25 May, offering backstage tours and sneak peeks of current and upcoming productions throughout the day. Circa will be collecting gold coin donations from visitors on Open Day, the proceeds of which will go to the Millionth Bum Fundraising Campaign to replace the seats in Circa One.

“Circa is proud to be a vital part of the Wellington community and relishes the chance to give people a unique perspective of our theatre,” said Richard Chapman, Co-coordinator of the Circa Council. “If you’ve ever wanted a look behind-the-scenes, to see how the magic of theatre really works, now is your chance.”

The doors will open at 10am and backstage tours will be offered half hourly between 10:30am and 2:30pm (15 people per tour, first come first served). Other events will take place as follows (all are family-friendly and will happen in the foyer):

11am – Trick of the Light Theatre will present a brief excerpt from The Road That Wasn’t There (which opens 8 July in Circa Two), featuring puppets and songs from the show.

12pm – The Improvisors (Theatresports is on Sunday evenings until 15 June) will perform a short improv show about Circa Theatre, on the life of the actor and demonstrate various genres of theatre.

1pm – Peter Hambleton and Allan Henry will chat about their journey on Equivocation (which opens in Circa One on 24 May) as Director and Fight Choreographer, as well as their experience working on The Hobbit trilogy.

The Circa Box Office will offer a one-day-only deal on Friends of Circa memberships ($35, down from $50) and visitors will be able to enter a draw for a double pass to the 2014 show of their choice. Encore Restaurant and Bar will be open from 10am and serving coffee and a variety of drinks and counter food.

Last year, 178 people visited Circa on Wellington Open Day to participate in behind-the-scenes tours throughout the day.
