Marketing and Audience Development Manager Job Description
Full time, Contract Position (Start date: February 2015)
This role provides an exciting opportunity for an individual with a background in marketing, arts administration and audience development to join the staff of Wellington’s leading professional theatre.
The Marketing and Audience Development Manager reports to the Circa Council and is accountable for the effective creation and implementation of marketing and audience development strategies. The applicant must have experience in marketing, arts management, partnership building, hosting, customer service, social media management, publicity, basic web skills and copywriting/editing.
KEY ELEMENTS OF THE ROLE:
· Managing and developing Circa’s marketing initiatives.
· Implementing Circa’s Accessibility plan.
· Working with Single Venture Partnership publicists to promote Circa productions.
· Maintaining and building Circa’s relationships with audience, sponsors, groups and stakeholders.
· Implementing strategic approaches to increase audience.
· Maintaining Circa’s online presence.
· Working alongside Circa Council, box office, administration, creative teams, restaurant staff and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth and cohesive implementation of audience development and marketing strategies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
· Distributing audience surveys and collating responses.
· Curation, organisation and distribution of the annual brochure.
· Managing general advertising.
· Liaising with and advising Single Venture Partnership publicists on marketing initiatives for each production.
· Being the point of contact and host for group and corporate bookings.
· Operational implementation of marketing strategies to increase audience numbers.
· Regular updating of the Circa Publicity Guide.
· Engaging with the corporate sector to increase group bookings.
· Undertaking research initiatives to evaluate audience and marketing strategies.
· Implementing Accessibility Plan, including planning Audio Described and New Zealand Sign Language interpreted performances in collaboration with those communities.
· Managing Circa’s online presence and personality in liaison with Single Venture Partnerships, Box Office, administration and Circa Council (Twitter, Facebook, Circa Website, Meetup, Youtube, Eventfinder).
· Maintaining and enhancing relationships with media sponsors, cross-promotional partners, community leaders.
· Writing copy for collateral materials, press releases, web pages, social media, newsletters and blog.
· Planning events and workshops in collaboration with administration, Circa Council, TACT board, box office and Encore Restaurant.
· Attending industry events and network meetings.
· Attending regular Circa Council meetings and reporting on marketing, audience development and publicity initiatives.
DESIRABLE SKILLS/QUALITIES:
o Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain productive relationships with the Circa Council, general public, audience, stakeholders, arts practitioners and sponsors.
o A background in arts marketing and event hosting.
o Reporting and marketing skills.
o Excellent networking and collaboration skills.
o Excellent written skills.
o Experience in copyediting and proofreading.
o Self-starter.
o Experience and a keen interest in online marketing.
o Experience with Microsoft Office, CMS, social media, Mailchimp. Get Smart and Patronbase an asset, but not essential.
o Ability to work in a team.
o Excellent time management and a willingness to go above and beyond.
o Ability to manage multiple competing tasks.
o Knowledge of Wellington theatre scene and networks.
