POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION PURPOSE
The STAB commission is an integral part of the annual BATS Theatre programme. STAB originated in 1995 from BATS’ desire to initiate a commission that allowed theatre artists to experiment in a supportive environment. The STAB commission is funded by Creative New Zealand and commissioned by BATS, with BATS acting as the Executive Producer.
The purpose of this position is to be the Wellington based producer for the project that has received the 2015 major STAB commission. This project is a collaboration between BATS, Long Cloud Youth Theatre and Canberra Youth Theatre.
POSITION DIMENSIONS
This position is for a fixed term contract commencing March 2015 and ending November 2015. A set fee will be paid for this contract with the successful applicant expected to manage the workload as they see fit.
Some travel to Canberra may be required with flights, accommodation, per diems and other related expenses covered by BATS through the STAB commission.
The Wellington season of the project will take place from 19 – 24 November 2014.
Key Duties/Responsibilities of the Role
- A major focus of the STAB 2015 Producer role is liaison with Long Cloud Youth Theatre key personnel, Canberra Youth Theatre key personnel, project cast and crew and BATS Theatre as Executive Producers.
- Publicity for the Wellington season is another major focus, along with budget management in collaboration with Canberra Youth Theatre and Long Cloud Youth Theatre key representatives.
Other responsibilities include:
- Undertaking any additional funding applications that may be necessary
- Contracting Wellington based cast and crew
- Booking flights and accommodation as/if necessary
- Working closely with Canberra Youth Theatre’s production manager on any transport logistics for set and props etc, and the pack-in and pack-out schedule for the Wellington season
- Compiling a project report with input from key Long Cloud Youth Theatre and Canberra Youth Theatre personnel at the end of the process.
DESIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
- At least three years experience producing theatre/live performance
- Experience with touring theatre/live performance, ideally including international touring experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent budget management skills
- Ability to work as part of a small team
- Attention to detail
- A passion for New Zealand live performance
- A passion for events management
- An understanding of the BATS philosophy

REPORTING
The 2015 STAB producer reports directly to the BATS Co-General Managers.
