CENTREPOINT THEATRE’S BASEMENT CO. AUDITIONING FOR 2017 INTAKE
Basement Co., run by Centrepoint Theatre, is calling for auditions for its 2017 intake. Since its conception in 2005, Basement Co. has operated as a one-of-a-kind initiative used to find and train the Manawatu’s most talented high-school drama students in the performing arts. Entering its thirteenth year in 2017, Basement Co. is set to relaunch as an intensive theatre training programme for young actors aged 16-21 years.
The company is looking for ambitious, committed and talented individuals to meet weekly as part of this new youth theatre company, gaining exposure to professional acting coaching, direction, and life as a theatre practitioner. The programme will be run by Centrepoint Theatre’s creative director Daniel Pengelly, whose previous experience includes running Christchurch’s renowned Court Youth Theatre Company.
“Investing in our local young people is vital if we wish to see them excel,” says Pengelly. “Basement Company’s programme gives professional experience, acting tools and challenges its members to be conscious and articulate artists”.
Former Basement Co. members include Funny Girls’ Laura Daniel, stuntman Jamie Smith, dancer/actress Ria Simmons and playwright Adam Goodall.
For 2017 company members, the programme will cost $600 in total – $150 per term – and can be paid in instalments by prior arrangement. This covers weekly workshops under the tutelage of professional practitioners, free admission to every show in Centrepoint Theatre’s main bill season, and the opportunity to be part of a professional production in William Golding’s Lord of the Flies.
Auditions will be held on Saturday 11th March at The Dark Room, corner of Church and Pitt Street, and directly opposite Centrepoint Theatre.
To sign up for an audition, please send name, contact details and age to director Daniel Pengelly on dan.pengelly@centrepoint.co.nz.
Places are limited so do not delay getting in touch.
