THEATREVIEW MOVES TO A COMMUNITY FUNDING MODEL
Theatreview seeks your support through the PressPatron initiative.
The ‘Become a supporter’ button at the top of the page, above our logo, tells you how to donate.
The ‘Koha/Donation’ button on the side panel explains everything in greater detail.
Theatreview has evolved to meet the wants and needs of the performing arts community and their audiences. As we do not fit the current prescribed criteria of the major Arts funding organisations, your support will help us continue to provide the valuable resource we offer.
Our point of difference from other review sites is that we continue to build and maintain a comprehensive searchable archive of performing arts practice dating back to 2006. As we continue to work towards achieving financial security, John Smythe, Raewyn Whyte and Sascha Monteiro have kept Theatreview going on a voluntary basis so that there is not a gap in the record.
Refreshing the site and integrating the PressPatron initiative has also involved intense commitment and focus by Alex Clark (PressPatron), Michael Smythe (CREATIONZ Consultants), Sascha and John.
Long-term we hope to be able to revamp the website but it would not be responsible to find and use funds for that purpose until core funding is more secure for the foreseeable future.
All reviewers continue to contribute for the return of two comp tickets only. It is still our long term aspiration to find a sustainable way of paying them.
Theatreview’s mission remains to review professional performing arts throughout New Zealand, as constructive contributions to:
- the public for whom the work is made and on whose behalf reviews are written
- the professional practitioners who create the shows they need to see reflected
- the ongoing conversation of which reviews, comments and forum discussions are parts, and
- the historical record of performing arts practice in New Zealand – an ephemeral art form too easily forgotten if it is not written into the record.
P.S. The PressPatron initiative now supersedes the Performing Arts Directory (PAD) which has been phased out . Free ‘audience membership’ is retained to allow you to choose an email alert option for new reviews, add Comments to reviews and participate in Forums.
