WEAVING EPIC TAPESTRIES Playwriting with Tom Minter
Presented by JK PRODUCTIONS
A rare opportunity for emerging and established playwrights of colour* to develop their craft with the expertise of internationally renowned Playwright TOM MINTER.
Minter’s work specailizes around issues of diversity and intersectional threads of identity in the tapestry of community. His body of work includes collaborations with Washington National Opera (WNO), Philip Glass and the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery.
A development season of his play AMERICA REX will be mounted on the 29th to 31st of August at TAPAC by JK PRODUCTIONS. It’s a political drama of epic scale of which we rarely see on our local stages, calling for a return to indigenous ways of knowing and belonging.
Over the course of the masterclass, Tom Minter will explore the process of discovering the seed of an idea and putting it into text, the unique tools and exercises he’s developed, a close reading of his own text, and finishing up with a Q&A.
All profits made from this workshop will go towards helping the playwright cover the costs of travelling to New Zealand to attend the premiere of his work.
*The purpose of this masterclass is to provide a unique and safe space for Playwrights of Colour to explore the development of their skills with practitioner who can offer an invaluable perspective as a gay black American.
