Pitch us a show for BATS 30th Anniversary Season 

In April 2019, BATS will celebrate its 30th anniversary and its rich history as a Wellington institution.

Over the past thirty years, BATS has been the spark that lit the careers of many household names and accumulated a vast number of shows that make up its creative canon.

2019 will see a number of events to celebrate our anniversary, which will help us engage the Wellington community in the future of BATS; reconnect with BATS alumni and increase audience attendance and wider community awareness.

The 30th Anniversary Season will be a series of up to 5 new works that respond to previous BATS shows, programmed between June and December 2019. The season will honour our past while looking to the future, connecting audiences and practitioners of past BATS whānau with present and future BATS whānau.

What was the BATS show that ‘changed your life’, made you the theatre maker that you are today or sparked you to follow your current creative path? What does that work mean to you now and what would you like to say to it over a coffee if you had the chance?

We are asking companies and creatives to open a dialogue with previous BATS work, questioning how and why the artistic, political and social landscapes have changed since the creation of the original work, and how to respond to that with a view to challenging audiences to engage in that same dialogue within their own communities. The 30th Anniversary Season will also be an opportunity to celebrate and illuminate the influence of past BATS work on current practitioners.

The 30th Anniversary Season will be generously supported by Phantom Billstickers with discounts on poster and flyer distribution and specified central Wellington placement. Each production will also be filmed for a webcast, to be hosted online by The Pantograph Punch.

BATS is currently looking for a naming sponsor for the season, potentially providing extra resources and support for each of the programmed shows within the season.
