And in an ironic twist, this reviewer misrepresented and trivialised these women’s traumatic stories thus underlining the point of the show!

Specifically –
One story, summarized as “a dancer goes to Japan and is ignored”, highlights the resilience and courage of a shy dancer who goes from being badly bullied in Japan to being held hostage and repeatedly sexually assaulted and nearly murdered. She tells the police and her mother who dismiss her, which leads to her keeping silent for 30 years.
The story summarized as “a woman recovers from a miscarriage” highlights the problem of the medical profession mistreating women because they don’t and won’t listen to them. This woman in her forties is told that her pain is due to stress and anxiety when in fact she nearly dies from an ectopic pregnancy. The delay in treatment causes long-term physical and psychological issues, and she is unable to access funding for ongoing treatment, because it doesn’t fit neatly into any suitable categories.
