NZ International Comedy Festival 2010
Production Details
Pauly Shore knows a little something about the fleeting nature of fame and fortune. Despite overwhelming popularity during the early ’90s, he has been slapped around by the media, one relatively gracious journalist dubbing him "the dethroned king of dumb-ass comedy".
In spite of this, the man best known to New Zealand audiences as the irreverent star of Son In Law, Bio-Dome and California Man has answered his critics in resounding fashion, forging a successful stand-up career, as well as directing, producing and starring in 2004’s Pauly Shore Is Dead, a critically-acclaimed mockumentary satirizing the perils and excesses of Hollywood.
Shore’s career post the 90’s ‘bromedy’ explosion has also seen the Hollywood native release several highly successful comedy albums, headline the Montreal Comedy Festival (the largest of its kind in the world), and star in a variety of film and television projects, including Entourage, Red Letters and The Bogus Witch Project. His new Showtime special Pauly Shore and Friends has begun airing in the US, and he will appear in both his own film project ‘Adopted’, due for release in April, and Adam Sandler’s as-yet-untitled new film, scheduled for release later in 2010.
Having performed his risque, firebrand stand-up routine throughout the world for over two decades, Shore will arrive in New Zealand in April to perform an intimate club show at Auckland’s Elliot Stables as part of the city’s International Comedy Festival on Saturday April 24th.

For those with an appreciation of self-depreciation
Review by Karyn Cushen 25th Apr 2010
With Pauly Shore, audience members are treated to the comic spectacle of a man who has come to the tragic realisation that the best moments of his career are behind him, and that there are plenty of jokes to be made at your own expense.
Better known for his roles in late 90s ‘idiot comedy’ films such as Bio-Dome and California Man, Pauly has well and truly fallen off the cultural radar in the last 10 years. As for what he has been doing in the interim, god only knows.
His best idea seems to be to start making sequels of his own movies – an idea that has been quashed by his past co-stars, who either claim to have never been associated with him, or whose careers have somehow tanked even more than his own.
The comedy itself is solid – plenty of crude jokes about his own sexual proclivities, the dating preferences of men compared to women, and the general crappiness of Pauly’s life. While certainly not for the faint of heart, the jokes are frequent and done well.
Along for the ride is his sidekick Sandy Danto. Better known for his appearances on Mad TV, Sandy also has mastered the art of making comedy at his own expense, liberally mocking his own rotund appearance and horrible moustache, whilst also making good and liberal use of sexual innuendo.
Certainly a must see for those that have fond memories of his awful movies, or have an appreciation of self-depreciation, Pauly Shore is certainly worth a look.
