Raises awareness with well-pitched comedy
Review by Alexandra Bellad-Ellis 09th Oct 2018
In Nathan Hedley’s first full length stand-up routine he takes the audience for a walk through his life focusing on his battle with mental health and suicide, from his diagnosis through his experiences with the mental health system.
While the material may seem dark, Nathan Hedley strikes a good balance between funny and serious as he talks about a topic that many people will have experienced first-hand. His tone is light and personable, talking to the audience in the same way that you would talk to friends at a party.
This show is part comedy act, part Ted X talk, not only making the audience laugh but bringing awareness to the subject of mental health. Opening up ways for people to talk about their own mental health with their friends and family after the show.
As it is National Mental Health Week, his show brings awareness to a topic that affects many New Zealander’s. (It’s on again tonight: Tuesday the 9th of October, 7pm at The Royal.)
