“They are triple threats… and triple tits.” Stage Whispers
PO PO MO CO bring their boundary straddling brand of physical comedy to New Zealand! Bodies are on the line as these serious idiots dive deep into the saturated emotions of animals, plants and minerals. The limits of ensemble will be pushed as they dare to throw their teats across the creative terrain of dance- comedy.
The PO PO MO CO ensemble create queer feminist sketch loaded with serious stupidity. Flutter and Flounce is a queer theft of life’s dramatic moments, dethroned and clown-ified.

Bizarre, admirable and received with raucous acclaim
Review by Margaret Austin 04th Mar 2020
If ‘woke’ can refer to theatrical sensibility, I’m not sure I can lay claim to be. This perception is heightened by my experience of the opening sequence of Flutter and Flounce, starring Melbourne based Po Po Mo Co, on Bats Random stage. It’s not so much flutter and flounce as pose po-faced, put out your pelvis and pout.
Perhaps I’d have been less bemused if I’d studied the programme note: this show is billed as “a neo-vaudevillian delicatessen of serious stupidity.” By the end of the show, I can happily vouch for all five of those descriptors – especially the neo. That these consummately cheeky performers make such a success of such a recipe attests to their skill, imagination and bravado.
There’s full frontal nudity all right – but that’s nothing to what they do with it. Throwing conventional good taste and decorum to all the winds, our four shameless females create havoc amongst themselves – and most of the audience. To say these women are received with raucous acclaim would be an understatement.
It’s cleverly derivative as well. There are send-ups of musicals, notably Cats, athletics combined with erotics, and costumes when necessary.
My bemusement at the general bizarreness changes to absolute admiration mid-show with the restaurant threesome number, featuring a male, who’s so typical that an audience member (also male) can’t help emitting a shriek of recognition. This sequence defies description and – believe me – is alone worth the price of the entry ticket.
A rap number dedicated to a certain item of female anatomy completes my recommendation: this is not a show for the faint-hearted. Oh, and the delicatessen bit is for real – I’m not eating my words!
