THE COURT THEATRE: ARTISTIC DIRECTOR INTERNSHIP
Are you an artistic director of tomorrow? A future leader of a theatre company? An independent who would like the experience of working in the largest theatre company in NZ?
The Court Theatre invites applications for its Artistic Director Internship, commencing winter 2008.
This intensive programme incorporates training courses and seminars as well as work within each of The Court’s production, marketing and administrative departments. The intern will gain direct experience of box office, front of house, administration, marketing, sponsorship, promotions as well as of The Court’s in-house wardrobe, workshop, technical and design departments. Outside tutors will cover accounting, public speaking, effective written communication, media relations and general management courses.
The programme is designed to be as useful for the independent producer of stand-alone projects as for the artistic director of a full-time company.
During a 25-week period, the intern will be immersed in the activities of the Court Theatre company, spending defined periods with key members of staff and reporting to the Artistic Director and Chief Executive on a weekly basis. The programme provides a taste of what it means to work in every aspect and department of a vibrant artistic environment. It will equip the intern with the knowledge, skills and confidence to offer theatrical leadership when the opportunity arises.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a number of meetings, internal and external, and will take on specific artistic responsibilities.
This position has been made possible by the Theatre Investment Priorities Funding Programme of Creative New Zealand. It is planned to begin in or around winter 2008 but there is flexibility on the start date to suit the successful candidate.
This is a paid position, with accommodation allowance for candidates from outside of Christchurch. Applications close May 28th 2008.
