Rev It Up! a one hour educational musical for primary schools  

Echelon Productions is a multi award winning production company based in Melbourne Australia, specialising in educational musicals for primary schools as well as producing mainstream professional theatre. In 2009 this will be our fifth year producing and touring across New Zealand.

Our educational theatre division are holding auditions in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch for Rev It Up! a one hour educational musical for primary schools celebrating Storylines Festival and the importance of reading and literacy. It also features a selection of the shortlisted books from the 2009 NZ Post Book Awards for Children.

Rev It Up! is a high energy musical comedy about two primary aged kids, Claire and Boswell who take up the challenge to build a solar powered racing car. Before they know it they are racing along with the roar of engines all around and the only thing on their side seems to be a mysterious book with the title Fuel Your Mind waiting in the glove box…

Each cast includes 2 actors (1 male, 1 female).
We require 2 casts in Auckland, 1 cast in Wellington and 1 cast in Christchurch.

The performance style is energetic, interactive, riotous comedy.
Casts perform up to 3 shows a day in primary schools in the metropolitan area, within one hours drive of the city centre. The casts drive themselves between schools and actors need to have access to a reliable car.

REHEARSAL DATES/TIMES: (To Be Confirmed)
Monday 18th May – Saturday 23rd May 2009; 9am – 6pm
(Will not exceed 8 hours per day/48 hours total)

SEASON DATES: (To Be Confirmed)
AUCKLAND: Monday 25th May – Friday 26th June 2009
WELLINGTON: Monday 25th May – Friday 19th June 2009
CHRISTCHURCH: Monday 25th May – Friday 19th June 2009

CAST REQUIREMENTS:
Age: between 20 and early 30s
Skills: strong singing voices, excellent comedic inventive acting and ability to move well.
Personal qualities: Warm, friendly and enjoy working with children. Reliable and committed.

SALARY: Flat fee as contractor (to invoice Producer with personal IRD number)
Details will be provided upon submission for audition.

AUDITION DETAILS:
AUCKLAND: Thursday 11th December 2008 between 9AM-2PM
WELLINGTON: Wednesday 10th December 2008 between 4PM-7PM
CHRISTCHURCH: Wednesday 10th December 2008 between 9AM-12PM
Venue: To Be Confirmed

Audition requirements:
One song – Please bring legible sheet music in the correct key for one up-tempo, pop song.
One scene – We will forward one short scene from the script appropriate to the performer, to be prepared for the audition.
* Please note auditionees may be asked to do some simple dance steps in the audition.
