Self Serve
Play readings 12 – 17 January
BATS Theatre: 7pm
The challenge was answered, and Self Serve is presenting 6 scoops of new play goodness at BATS Tuesday 13 – Saturday 17 January at 7pm.
The callout for interesting and challenging scripts has been answered by six diverse writers, who have been paired up with Wellington directors to push their development buttons and get these works going places, all with a drink in hand, of course!
The plays selected are Fun Shy by Paul Rothwell (winner of The Bruce Mason Playwright Award 2008), Lessen by Lori Leigh (Window On The World – selected for 2007 Edward Albee’s Great Plains Theatre Conference, Omaha), Pink Tea by Matt Saville (Kikia Te Poa), Providence by Louise Tu’u, Severed Heads by Melissa Pentecost (Tap That) and Playtime by Eli Kent (Best New Playwright Chapman Tripp Awards).
The week steers clear of traditional workshops and readings for the writer. It allows them to see their work performed and directed by some of Wellingtons best theatre practitioners in the energetic environment of BATS Theatre.
Playreadings are a great chance to see and be inspired by new works that are in the pipeline in the very early stages of their development. Self Serve is also a great chance to see actors with a beer in their hands, giving everything to great new scripts, and creating an entertaining, relaxed and refreshing night of performance.
So make sure you come along to Self Serve!
