JOSETTE BUSHELL-MINGO IN CONVERSATION WITH TOM MCCRORY  

One of the UK’s leading Afro-Caribbean theatre practitioners, actress and director; Josette Bushell-Mingo (OBE) joins us fresh from the RSC to direct this year’s Shakespeare: A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  

Josette will be in conversation with Tom McCrory, Senior Acting Tutor – Movement, talking about her amazing life, work and artistic vision for Toi Whakaari’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. 

"My productions are often epic, visual and sensual. I am greatly influenced by films and we have been watching stuff from Hero to Pans labyrinth, Moulin Rouge to Buster Keaton, each differently tapping emotions that are seen in the play. I want the audience to have a theatrical experience; to hear and see Shakespeare through his imagery and the visual landscape; to leave knowing they have been in a theatre caught up in the dream."

Known for her work with black artists in the UK, a leading role in the West End production of The Lion King, Olivier Award nominee and RSC director, Josette has come to New Zealand to work with our next generation of theatre makers.

Josette is currently Artistic Director of The Silent Theatre in Stockholm, Sweden; the Artistic Director of Push, an organisation set up to promote and develop Black British Theatre and is an Associate Artist of The Almeida Theatre, London.
