TWO PROFESSIONAL VOICE WORKSHOPS WITH D’ARCY SMITH

Saturday 7th August – The Voice in Violence

You wouldn’t physically act out violence on stage without a fight choreographer.  Why do the same with your voice? Learn techniques and skills for working with vocal extremes and stage violence.  Work on techniques of how to shout, scream, cough, choke, and add aggression to the voice in the healthiest way possible.
10am – 4pm, $60

Sunday 8th August – American Accent workshop

Learn the techniques and skills needed to acquire a believable General American Accent. Aspects of the accents placement, general vocal quality, tensions, intonation patterns, rhythm, and sound changes will be covered. Participants will receive sample recordings and notes to practice outside of workshop time.
10am – 4pm, $60

Due to the advanced nature of these classes we will only be accepting trained or experienced actors. Please do not apply if you do not fit these categories.

D’Arcy Smith is the Senior Tutor of Voice and Speech at Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School.  Prior to taking on this position he worked extensively as an actor, teacher and voice and speech specialist in the United States and Canada. He holds a Masters in Acting and Graduate Diploma in Voice Teaching and has taught at Wright State University, the Canadian National Voice Intensive, Toronto Film School and York University. His two theses were on the managing of stage fright and performance anxiety, and the teaching of range and resonance. He has worked as a voice, speech and accent coach on numerous professional productions and taught voice, speech and accents to a variety of skill levels. He has studied intensely with a variety of teachers in a variety of techniques: including Linklater, Roy Hart Theatre, Estill, Fitzmaurice, Lessac and voice science practitioners, among others. He has acted professionally in Film, Television, Voice-Over and Theatre.
