InterMISSION Forum #4: Discussing work as peers 

How do we discuss as peers, each others work in a meaningful and supportive way to encourage greater rigour in our practice?

This question will be explored through a forum discussing the recent performance project Death and the Dreamlife of Elephants as a means of fostering an informed and rigorous dialogue about each other’s work.

Thursday 16 June, 6:30 pm @ the Hub in Toi Poneke, The Arts Centre.

Death and the Dreamlife of Elephants: Part dream, part reality, part film noir, this complex journey follows a 30-something ‘everyman’ through the streets and back alleys of modern Wellington on a quest for a mysterious elephant. 

A slightly isolated dog’s ethos is to make entertaining and provocative experiences for audiences, to strengthen, reflect and celebrate Wellington. They do this by opening their process up to the community and developing partnerships wherever possible. In the making of … Elephants this included Mary Potter Hospice, Wellington Buddhist Centre, Lychgate Funeral Home, Victoria University and many other local businesses. 

Leo Gene Peters graduated with a Master of Theatre Arts (Directing) Degree from Toi Whakaari and Victoria University of Wellington in 2004. He has worked as a professional director, designer, technician, actor, tutor, facilitator and mentor for over 10 years. Most recently he directed and devised the 2009 STAB Season of Death and the Dreamlife of Elephants with his company, a slightly isolated dog. Elephants received tremendous critical and popular acclaim, earning 3 Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards (including Best Director of the Year for Leo) and 2 nominations (including production of the year).

We invite all Performance/Theatre artists to join us for these conversations.

What is InterMISSION?

The Wellington Producers Room presents InterMISSION – a series of FREE facilitated forums between emerging and established theatre practitioners, where we meet and address questions of critical importance for the success of our artform in New Zealand, for ourselves as practitioners within the theatre sector, and to ensure the delivery of quality art experiences to our audiences.

The discussions will encourage values of honesty, concrete specificity, generosity and curiosity, so that those involved can interrogate their own work with the group present. And through this process, consequently, build a space where we come together communally to interrogate and evolve our work.

These forums are supported by Creative Communities funding through Creative NZ and Wellington City Council.
