Long Cloud Youth Theatre, run by Whitireia New Zealand, is calling for auditions for the Term 3 & 4 (2011) intake.
Long Cloud Youth Theatre is a unique Wellington based training and production company for young actors aged 16-21 years. The program is designed to equip the Company with the necessary performance skills to create vibrant, dynamic, bold and relevant theatre. The program involves intensive training in movement, voice and acting as well as performing in Company productions.
The Company has a few places left for the last part of 2011 and is looking for ambitious, talented and motivated 16-21 year olds who want to embark on a rollercoaster ride of making theatre together. The program will be run by new Artistic Director Aaron Cortesi as well as experienced tutors from the professional industry.
Auditions will be held on Friday 29th of July, 10am – 2pm at Whitireia Performing Arts Centre, 25-27 Vivian St. To sign up for an audition, please send name, contact details, age and a short description of theatre/drama background to longcloudyouththeatre@gmail.com .
The audition workshop is limited to 20 places so please rsvp ASAP.
Cortesi: “I feel excited to be working with a talented group of young theatre makers in the structure of this Company. The company is a great opportunity to grow as an actor and at the same time make theatre with likeminded passionate people. I have big dreams for the Company and I am especially looking for anyone who wants to make a big commitment and investment in being part of Long Cloud Youth Theatre. The program is intense with two evening rehearsals/classes each week, and you need to be available in some weekends and holidays as well. It is like doing sports at a very high level.”
The members of the Company come from different ethnic and social backgrounds, high schools and Universities. A majority of them pursue a career in the performing arts.
Long Cloud has proven to be a hothouse of New Zealand’s most exciting young acting talent, and many of the students have gone on to professional careers in the performance arts industry and further training establishments like Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School. In the coming terms the Company will continue its success by performing two new devised works by NZ writers Jo Randerson and Eli Kent (Summer School 2011/2012 at Downstage Theatre).
Long Cloud has produced a variety of productions such as; THE LARAMIE PROJECT (2011), SHEEP (Bats Theatre 2011), THE BOOK OF EVERYTHING (2011), DAUGHTERS OF HEAVEN (Downstage Theatre 2011), EQUUS (2010), THE CRUCIBLE (2009), and SPRING AWAKENING (2008).
