Job description: 
This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future direction of New Zealand’s leading dance festival. The New Zealand Dance Festival Trust presents Tempo, the successful annual festival which has celebrated and promoted dance, dancers and choreographers since 2002.
 
The Tempo dance festival features performances from top New Zealand professional choreographers, dancers and dance companies as well as providing a platform upon which emerging dancers and choreographers can develop skills and present works at little risk.
 
The Trust is seekinga person with a clear artistic vision for the continued growth of the Tempo festival. The successful candidate(s) will work closely with the producers, manager and the Board of Trustees in a small but dynamic and rewarding artistic environment.
 
The shape of the role will be based on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
 
You will have primary responsibility for planning the artistic content of the Trust’s activities, specifically the Tempo dance festival held in or about October annually, comprising:

primarily full-length works by professional dance artists
shared programmes, where more appropriate
associated events e.g. honouring of artists and opening events. 
 
There are also administrative functions which include:
Managing a productive professional team
Negotiating and implementing contracts with artists, technical and specialist personnel, venues and funders.
Working with  marketing and sponsorship specialists to develop and implement a marketing & sponsorship strategy and audience development initiatives
Maintaining effective and positive communication with funders & stakeholders

Assisting with funding applications.

Key skills sought
The successful candidate will be an experienced artistic director with a clear vision for the Tempo festival and established national and international dance networks. The successful candidate will also have proven relationship skills including the ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive and respectful relationships with diverse stakeholders. Previous experience in the dance sector is not necessary but is desirable, as there will be extensive contact with Funders, Producers and Artists.
