THE SMALLEST UNIVERSE IN THE WORLD is a moving and fascinating story about the clash between love and ambition. It’s based on the life of groundbreaking astronomer, Beatrice Tinsley. Astrophysicist, wife, mother, daughter and gifted musician, Beatrice was a brilliantly creative and passionate woman whose work has profoundly influenced our understanding of the universe. But in the male dominated science establishment of the 70’s, Beatrice struggles against prejudice and views of her place in the world. She proves to be right – but success comes at great personal cost.

Directed by: Simon Bennett

Featuring:
Raymond Hawthorne, Jennifer Ward-Lealand, Ian Hughes and Tandi Wright.

What is a play reading?
ATC’s monthly play readings offer a unique chance to get an insight into new works at an early stage in their development. A group of actors will read the play and afterwards we open up the floor for a Q & A session about the work. The play readings are often the first time the plays are experienced by the public and your response, reactions and questions can be pivotal in the further development of the piece.
