FRINGE AUDITIONS 1-3/12, WHEELS OF JUSTICE, WELLINGTON

Looking for 10 actors to be part of Wheels of Justice, a site-specific murder mystery play that the audience will watch as they bicycle around the city. It is a co-op production created by windyPAE (windy Performing Arts Ensemble, a new company in Wellington) for the Fringe Festival.

The roles are partly scripted and partly improvised; three of the actors need to own and be able to ride a bike. Bikes for other roles will help (scenes play out at various sites around town), but are not a requirement. Because this is a devised work, actors will be encouraged to offer input into their characters’ lives, which will be further developed during rehearsals.

Characters:

3 Detectives: (any age and gender) bike riding and improvisation skills are key! Each detective must be comfortable leading and managing an audience of 25 about the city, solving the murder mystery.

Freddie: (any age or gender) drugged-out homeless person seen in beginning of show. Small, very fun, pivotal role.

Cassie Champion: (any age or gender) head of Champion Parking, highly strung business leader, wants money and prestige more than love.

John Winslow – head of Winslow Parking, a smarmy guy able to cover up his devious deeds with the wink of an eye.

Indigo – angry street artist, lesbian who has lost her lover in supposed overdose.

Snitch – (any age or gender) drug dealer who runs from the cops and talks back to everyone.

Polly Overton – politician and nervous assistant to Frank Middleman (murdered councilman), surrounded by corruption but tries to do good.

Spike – (any age or gender) biker whose brother was recently killed while biking in Wellington’s Critical Mass. Smart-ass bully who is a raw nerve waiting for a fight.
