AN ACTOR WALKS INTO CHINA

Book reading by Colin McPhillamy, at The Court Theatre, 4pm, 22 June 2014

Colin McPhillamy plays Peter Quince in The Court Theatre’s newest production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. By special arrangement he will read from his new book An Actor Walks into China on Sunday 22nd June in The Court foyer at 4.00 p.m.

Born in London, McPhillamy trained as an actor at the Royal Central School. He was with the National Theatre for five seasons and has extensive Broadway, West End, regional acting credits. He has also been a regular contributor to BBC Radio.

In a career that has taken him from northern Scotland to southern Australia, nothing prepared him for China.

An Actor Walks into China tells of adventures directing and producing Western theatre in Beijing and then producing Chinese theatre in London.

McPhillamy says, “I liked everyone I met in China. It was only when we started doing business that the shouting started.”

“A wonderful read…part travelogue, part Thru the Looking Glass… funny and moving and real” Robert Hupp, Artistic Director, The Rep, Little Rock

“McPhillamy embarks on a co-production between China and the UK that quickly descends into something akin to juggling chainsaws whilst cycling on quicksand.” JB Blanc actor/director

“This is a book where you can see, smell, touch, feel and enjoy the writer’s exploration and acceptance of an unfamiliar and intriguing way of life… not to be missed.” Joan Lane, Producer, Wild Thyme Productions. (Producer of The King’s Speech)
