THE AUCKLAND THEATRE AWARDS INTRODUCE MAJOR NEW DISTINCTIONS FOR 2014.
Launching a new initiative, the Auckland Theatre Awards (ATA) will grant a selection of up to ten formally judged ‘Excellence Awards’. Having been chosen by a panel of 6 professionals these awards will celebrate a range of disciplines, and be for both individuals and groups. The returning ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, ‘Newcomer Awards’ and ‘Most Original Production’ will also be presented within this section of the evening.
Another new enterprise will see ‘Service Honours’ presented to New Zealand practitioners who have worked on 25, 50 or 100 professional shows. The honours serve to acknowledge the many dedicated full time professionals working in the New Zealand theatre industry. These will encompass work at all national professional theatre companies, and alongside the ATA, they will be presented at several other awards ceremonies throughout NZ. Practitioners are asked to inform the ATA and come along on the night if they wish to gain their honours.
In what is sure to be a fun and exciting evening actress Bronwyn Bradley will present the formal elements, with actor and comedian Chris Parker returning as host for the remainder of the night. Chris and Bronwyn will be supported by graduating students from PIPA and The Actors Program.
Staying true to form the ATA will continue to present the Peoples Choice Awards – with Best Pash, Best Technical F#*^ Up and Best Poster being some of the accolades. All practitioners and audience members are invited to vote via www.theatreview.co.nz from the 13th of November.
This will be the last year at the helm for creator/director Kip Chapman and producer Rachel Forman. Chapman is extremely excited about these two new aspects of the event and looks forward to presenting them to the industry.
