BATS Programme Manager – JOB OPPORTUNITY

BATS Theatre is the largest developmental theatre in New Zealand, presenting an annual programme of more than 80 shows across three performance spaces that encompass theatre, dance, music and comedy. BATS is recognised and funded as an Arts Leadership Organisation by Creative New Zealand and is also supported by the Wellington City Council.
The BATS Programme Manager is responsible for ensuring the organisational stability and artistic vision of BATS. They will use their knowledge, skills and intuition to manage, maintain and drive the BATS artistic vision. They will have energy, vitality and motivation and take on the overall responsibility for the BATS programme.
The Programme Manager is Co-General Manager of BATS Theatre, alongside the Business Development Manager. In partnership these managers are responsible for ensuring BATS’ position as a stable organisation and a key player in the arts community of Wellington and Aotearoa New Zealand.
This position is extremely fullon and requires a passion for the performing arts along with a thorough working knowledge of theatre, a high level of organisation, excellent interpersonal skills and operational management ability. This is a full time position and flexible hours are required.

You will be responsible for ensuring BATS is a home for inspired people, new ideas, innovation and exciting performance. You’ll have an unparalleled passion for making plans and be known for your ability to be organised, work with diverse groups of people and make things happen.
You’ll be involved in:
- Management of the BATS programme
- Organisational (including staff) management
- Marketing and publicity
- Business development and stakeholder management
- Health and Safety and legal compliance
- Reporting to the BATS Theatre Board
Desired Skills / Experience
- An exceptional ability to deal with diverse groups of people and develop positive relationships
- Thorough working knowledge of theatre production and practice
- Highly organised
- Strategic management skills
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Budgeting and financial knowledge
- Computer skills – good working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel
- Skilled advocate for the arts
- Arts marketing knowledge
- Staff management skills an advantage
- Dramaturgical skills an advantage
The ideal start date is mid-March 2016. This is a 3 year fixed term contract.
