THE FIRST RUSSELL KERR LECTURE IN BALLET & RELATED ARTS

on THE LIFE AND WORK OF KRISTIAN FREDRIKSON,
Petone Boy Made Good

by Michelle Potter

Sunday 11 February 2018 – 3pm

The venue is Adam Concert Room
at Victoria University’s School of Music, Fairlie Tce, Kelburn, Wellington

Dear Friends

You will all remember many of Kristian’s designs for Royal New Zealand Ballet, and doubtless be aware that he had a subsequent distinguished career in many Australian theatre enterprises.

Michelle Potter, a leading Australian dance scholar and historian, has written a book on Fredrikson and will share that material with us.

(Her website www.ondancing carries reviews of dance in Australia and New Zealand).

The lecture will follow a performance of Lark, choreographed in 2017 by Loughlan Prior, for Jon Trimmer and William Fitzgerald.

(This performance is by kind permission from RNZB).

Piano accompaniment by Hamish Robb and Beth Chen of VUW.

You should be proud that your generosity of donations has enabled us to plan this series of annual lectures in honour of Russell Kerr, to acknowledge his monumental contribution to dance in New Zealand.

(We have taken the idea from the annual Lincoln Kirstein lecture in Ballet & Related Arts, held annually at NYU. See the most recent of these, Song & Dance, presented by Ian Bostridge, with the full lecture posted on YouTube)

There is no entry charge for this event but we are expecting a full house so we recommend your rsvp for seating and catering purposes to:

The support of Te Kōkī, New Zealand School of Music, is much appreciated.
