Two Day Plays – Heat 2 Finalist

Last night 5 new plays were premiered at McKenzie Theatre in Capital E. They were:
Theatre Militia – The Mysterious Murder of Dr Black, the owner of the house, whose body has been found at the foot of the stairs leading to the cellars at a spot marked X: A Tragedy,
Hackman – The Seige,
Peas in a Pod – The Music Class,
Traces of Nut – The Autopsy (ineligible for finals), and
Backyard – Signophobia.
The judging panel consisted of Jean Betts, Murray Lynch, Bevin Linkhorn and Michael Wray. Because there were only 4 eligible plays to choose from instead of the expected 6, the judges elected – by a vote of 3 to 1 – to select only one finalist from Heat 2 at this stage, and to choose a wildcard finalist from all three heats after Heat 3. All eligible teams will be considered for this wildcard entry.
The finalist chosen from this heat (so far) was Hackman – The Seige. Hackman will now progress to the final on Feb 22nd, where they will perform another brand new play yet to be invented. Congratulations to all teams and good luck.

What a choice event! Lots of fun to do, entertaining to watch, should be in every Fringe. and then…
… instead of competing against four or five other teams for a slot in the final, the left over teams from last night are up against 11! I guess as this is its first outing you can reserve the right to change the rules on us but it is a bit stink. I mean, we were told something different on Friday night and again at the show last night, we all worked just as hard as if there were 6 teams in the running. We can’t help it if it was a long weekend and there weren’t 6 teams entered.
grump grump says a team member not in Hackman.
Still think it should continue next year, it is a wicked event, but just think maybe the rules should be clarified so participants don’t feel cheated.
