AUCKLAND THEATRE AWARDS 2016 The Winners TOP ACCOLADES HANDED OUT TO THE BEST AND BRIGHTEST IN AUCKLAND’S THEATRE COMMUNITY The Auckland Theatre Awards celebrated their 8th anniversary last night, which included awarding both the Peoples Choice awards and the formally-judged Excellence Awards. These awards were decided on by a panel of four, who were confidential until the event last night. In 2016, the judging panel included former Metro editor Simon Wilson, producer Angela Green, The Pantograph Punch founding editor, Rosabel Tan, and actor and director Jason Te Kare.

DUNEDIN THEATRE AWARDS 2016 Finalists and Winners Last night the Fortune Theatre hosted the 7th Annual Dunedin Theatre Awards to a warm and appreciative crowd. Fans of finalists shared their enthusiasm as each name was announced, allowing everyone to be honoured for a moment. The Awards ceremony was hosted once again by the expert and entertaining Barry Dorking, and our Living Taonga, Louise Petherbridge QSM, presented the trophies and certificates to the winners.

UNIVERSITY OF AUCKLAND'S MAIDMENT THEATRE TO CLOSE FOR GOOD NZ Herald, Wednesday Nov 2, 2016 The University of Auckland's Maidment Theatre is to close for good after costs for seismic strengthening soared to more than $16 million. The theatre, which is set in the university's central city grounds, was temporarily closed last December amid concerns over its earthquake safety standards. Today, university bosses announced to staff the theatre would not re-open because it would cost too much to bring it up to modern safety regulations.

FLITS ACROSS THE STAGE: theatrical ephemera from the Heritage Collections This exhibition at the Reed Gallery, Dunedin Public Library, is now in its final week, and finishes on Sunday 9 October 2016. Included in the McNab New Zealand Collection at Dunedin Public Libraries is a little-known collection of ephemera.* The bulk of the McNab Ephemera Collection consists of twentieth century theatre programmes, although some date back to the late nineteenth century and feature theatres which have long since disappeared from the Dunedin streetscape.
