DUNEDIN FRINGE FESTIVAL AWARDS 2016 The Dunedin Fringe Festival 2016 wrapped up last night with the official awards ceremony, held at the Festival Club. The venue was packed to capacity with artists, volunteers, festival crew and friends. Seven awards were handed to the best acts in each category, in addition to eight general awards given to events across all art forms. Volunteers were also honoured, with ten awards recognising outstanding contributions to the festival. A panel of judges, selected by the Festival, chose the winners.

POWERFUL TŪHOE EPIC TAKES TOP AWARD PLAYMARKET is pleased to announce the ADAM NZ PLAY AWARD winner for 2016: Maraea Rakuraku for her play Tan-Knee. Maraea also received the awards for Best Play by a Māori Writer and Best Play by a Woman Writer. The Adam NZ Play Award recognises and celebrates the best in new writing for the theatre. Director of Playmarket Murray Lynch announced the win at Circa Theatre on 13 March 2016 alongside four other special award winners. The first in a planned trilogy of plays, Tan-Knee is an impressive and gripping play about a Tūhoe family.

The Theatre NOW Project: New Work Generator – Join us for 2016 Are you a writer, actor, director, or producer passionate about developing new ideas, stories, and exploding open theatrical possibilities? The Theatre NOW Project facilitates a community of theatre-makers and peers interested in making new work that resonates with our contemporary local and global world. This is the second year we are running the project and we are putting the call out for new members to join us. What are the issues of now? Why should we care? How do they affect people? How can live performance respond? Theatre NOW meets monthly on a Saturday at the Limelight in the Aotea Centre, with support from Auckland Live. Sessions are free for members.
