The ceremony was presided over by two very special guests; MC Barry Dorking, and the esteemed Louise Petherbridge QSO, who was the recipient of Dunedin Theatre Award’s ‘Living Taonga’ Award in 2012.

WELLINGTON THEATRE AWARDS 2015 In 2015 the Cultural Capital was host to 191 theatre events, all of which were celebrated Sunday 6th December at the Wellington Theatre Awards, held at Circa Theatre. Hosted by debonair MC James Nokise, and hilariously accompanied by minstrels Carrie Green and Jack Buchanan – this epic, diverse and creative year was recognised as a make or break moment for the industry. In going forward in an increasingly tough arts market, unanimous calls for collaboration, creativity and community were encouraged.

DUNEDIN THEATRE AWARDS 2015 - NOMINATIONS Annual celebration of Dunedin Theatre returns On Monday 7 December 2015, the Dunedin Theatre Reviewers’ Collective shall host the 6th Annual Dunedin Theatre Awards. These awards were created to celebrate the achievements of the Dunedin theatre community, to acknowledge excellence in theatre performance in Dunedin, and to encourage diverse and continued participation in Dunedin theatre. The generous support of donors, including Otago Community Trust and DCC Creative Communities Scheme, has ensured that this year’s celebration will be a fitting tribute to the hard work and talent of so many.

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST ARE SOUGHT FROM THEATRES, DRAMA SOCIETIES OR GROUPS who may be interested in performing the winning plays from the 2016 Playwrights Association of New Zealand (PANZ) Competition. In 2015 all eight winning plays were produced as a single show which ran for six well attended performances at the Dark Room, Palmerston North. The 2016 Competition will also be for the best 10-minute play scripts and eight Finalists will be decided by the end of July 2016.

The festival is the culmination of one of New Zealand’s most well-resourced professional script development processes. The play may be the thing, but a script only comes alive when actors and a director join in and explore the playwrights’ imagination.

NEW ZEALAND FESTIVAL CELEBRATES 30th ANNIVERSARY AND LAUNCHES 2016 LINE-UP Artistic Director Shelagh Magadza has announced the New Zealand Festival’s programme of events taking place in Wellington over three weeks from 26 February – 20 March 2016. Founded in 1986, the New Zealand Festival is Aotearoa’s largest celebration of cutting-edge arts and culture. One of the five biggest festivals in Australasia, it has sold approximately two million tickets across the past 15 Festivals and drawn a total attendance of more than five million people to its free and ticketed events.
