The play’s the thing—EXPLORING HAMLET A short lecture series exploring Hamlet as Elizabethan audiences would have experienced it, coincides with the Globe Theatre’s upcoming world tour of Shakespeare’s most famous play. Local Shakespeare expert David Lawrence will present the lectures through the Victoria University Continuing Education programme. As well as being suitable for anyone attending the Globe-to-Globe performance of Hamlet in Wellington on 1 to 2 June, he says, it is also aimed at people interested in how Shakespeare’s plays work in performance, both in their original context and today.

AUCKLAND FRINGE AWARDS CELEBRATE A CRACKER OF A SEASON. Running over a vibrant three weeks, Auckland Fringe and it’s participating companies and venues, have presented the city with a diverse programme of Theatre, Dance, Comedy and Music. Sadly it all came to a close on Sunday, and was celebrated at the highly anticipated 2015 Auckland Fringe Awards. Hosted by renowned taste-makers The Basement Theatre, the best of the high quality programme were recognized with awards hosted handsomely by Eli Mathewson and Hamish Parkinson.

BATS THEATRE LIMITED STAB 2015 Producer Fixed Term Contract POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION PURPOSE The STAB commission is an integral part of the annual BATS Theatre programme. STAB originated in 1995 from BATS’ desire to initiate a commission that allowed theatre artists to experiment in a supportive environment. The STAB commission is funded by Creative New Zealand and commissioned by BATS, with BATS acting as the Executive Producer. The purpose of this position is to be the Wellington based producer for the project that has received the 2015 major STAB commission. This project is a collaboration between BATS, Long Cloud Youth Theatre and Canberra Youth Theatre.

ELI KENT AWARDED INAUGURAL AUCKLAND THEATRE COMPANY PATRONS’ PLAYWRIGHT FELLOWSHIP Auckland Theatre Company (ATC) is thrilled to announce Eli Kent has been awarded the inaugural Auckland Theatre Company Patrons’ Playwright Fellowship prize. Eli is one of New Zealand’s most exciting and original playwrights. His first play Rubber Turkey, written when he was just 19, earned him the Peter Harcourt Award for Outstanding New Playwright of the Year at the 2008 Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards. The Intricate Art of Actually Caring, originally presented by Eli and his mate Jack Shadboltin his Mount Victoria bedroom, went on to tour throughout New Zealand and won Best Theatre in the NZ Fringe Festival 2009 and the Montana Award for the Most Original Production at the 2009 Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards.
