DUNEDIN THEATRE AWARDS SET TO SHINE THE SPOTLIGHT Finalists have been announced for the 2018 Dunedin Theatre Awards. The annual Awards celebration, in its 9th year, is to be held at Hanover Hall on Monday 10th December. This beautiful ex-church building is well-known to Dunedin as previously being several nightclubs. Over the past couple of years it has been transformed into the home of the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra, and was acknowledged as a fine new addition to the performance spaces of Dunedin at last year’s Awards.

Taki Rua Productions seeks BOOKINGS CO-ORDINATOR / PRODUCTION ASSISTANT Taki Rua Productions (based in Wellington) is looking for a part time administrator to join a small team to take responsibility for running the bookings process for our very successful schools Te Reo Maori Tour and assisting the Production Manager with their role on all of our productions throughout 2019. This role works closely with the Kaiwhakahaere Matua / General Manager, and supports the Production Manager to accomplish theatre production administration requirements. Previous experience in theatre productions would be useful but not essential.

WELLINGTON THEATRE AWARDS 2018 AND THE NOMINEES ARE… The Wellington Theatre Awards are proud to celebrate another exciting, engaging and highly entertaining year of professional theatre in the cultural capital on the evening of: Sunday 9 December at 6.30pm in the Amokura Gallery at the Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongawera. This year’s awards ceremony will celebrate with the theme of Our Voice - a reflection on and celebration of 125 years of women’s suffrage in New Zealand and the power of the collective voice. Together we will honour and acknowledge the brightest stars among the actors, directors, producers, writers, designers, technicians and theatre affiliates who have graced Wellington’s stages in 2018.

CHRISTIAN PENNY RESIGNS AS DIRECTOR OF TOI WHAKAARI: NZ DRAMA SCHOOL AFTER SEVEN YEARS With sadness, the Board of Trustees of Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School has accepted the resignation of Director Christian Penny. Penny took over the leadership of the school in 2011 after more than nine years as Head of Directing. Prior to that, he had been a successful freelance theatre director and co-director of the company Theatre at Large. Board chair Tim Walker praised Penny’s contribution as Director: “Christian has played a defining role in the development of Toi Whakaari. It is impossible to imagine the school being the exceptional learning organisation it is today without the brave and insightful leadership he has provided over the past seven years.

Under the heading “What happens after the protest?” Stückemarkt is searching for work that goes beyond descriptions of a status quo, imagines possi­ble futures and seeks new forms of artistic-activist interference. WELLINGTON SUMMER SHAKESPEARE AUDITIONS Performers are invited to audition for roles in the Wellington Summer Shakespeare production of Hamlet to be staged in the Botanical Gardens in February 2019. Please note: This audition process is for general auditions – i.e. all other characters in the play – the role of Hamlet has already been cast. Hamlet is being played by Stevie Hancox-Monk with a mixed gender cast. This will be a contemporary, ensemble-based production directed by David O’Donnell, award-winning director, author, lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington and the first person to direct a Summer Shakespeare in the Botanical Gardens in 1990.

From Whangarei to Invercargill, more than 450 shows and events will be staged by more than 70 different organisations including professional theatre companies, community theatre groups, schools and other institutions around the country.
