WRITING THE ARTS - THE EXPLANATORY WORD - Oct 2013 The Michael King Writers' Centre is calling for applications for its fifth residential workshop, which is on the subject of writing about the arts. The workshop will be a high-level, symposium-style seminar featuring leading writers and thinkers, all of whom are experts in their fields. It will be open to 24 participants, providing the opportunity for interactive presentations and discussions.

CREATIVE NEW ZEALAND COMMITS $4.5 MILLION TO AUCKLAND WATERFRONT THEATRE PROJECT Creative New Zealand will invest a total of $4.5 million to help realise the new Waterfront Theatre Project in central Auckland's Wynyard Quarter. The new, international-standard centre for performing arts will be integrated with the new ASB head office complex and become the permanent home of Auckland Theatre Company (ATC). The centre will include a 600-seat theatre and access to a 200-seat auditorium within the ASB development.

As someone who put the future of professional theatre to the foremost of his thoughts, he saw a world that very few imagined in the fifties. Our loss is one of a founder. It is fair to say there was nothing before he came.

Richard Campion, known to most as Dick, has died in Wellington in his 90th year. He spend the past couple of months at Sprott House in Karori and although suffering an “interesting” form of dementia (as described by his second wife, Judith), he remained active, taking daily walks and enjoying life in his inimitable way despite his increasing fragility. His daughters Anna and Jane, and son Michael, had all been to visit very recently and he succumbed to pneumonia on Tuesday (2nd July).
