IMPROV FOR AUDITIONS with Greg Ellis WELLINGTON | Sunday, 24 June 2012 | 10:00 until 14:00 So many auditions require actors to improvise – either solo or in groups. Everything from dialogue to action needs to be made up on the spot in a way that also allows an actor’s performance to shine. Yet so many actors panic in these situations, give bland performances or worse dominate the audition by shouting down the other performers. Its never a good look.

ISRAELIS ARREST PALESTINIAN THEATER’S ARTISTIC DIRECTOR Last night, Israeli armed forces raided the home of Nabil Al Raee, the artistic director of The Freedom Theatre in Jenin, arresting him and terrifying his three year old daughter Mina. The Freedom Theatre manager, Jonatan Stanczak asked the soldiers why they were detaining Al Raee. They refused to say. “The only answer you get is a gun in your face,” Stanczak said. According to Al Arabiya, the Israelis confirmed the incident, saying that Raee, “was arrested overnight in Jenin on suspicion of illegal activity.”

The decision to shut down TVNZ 7 will mean quality documentary films will become an endangered species on television in New Zealand. Documentary is a major component of any public service programming and features less readily with a broadcaster governed by commercial return.
