A delightful evolution of boiz to men

Review by Clarissa Chandrahasen 28th Sep 2018

We first meet an ‘elderly’ lady who sets the scene for the resurrection of the Fuq Boiz, who have been cryogenically frozen. Enter Hamish and Ryan, clad in matching satin boxers, classic fuq boi attire.

On stage with the Fuq Boiz are the cryogenic freezing boxes from whence they came, a bathtub, a large table with two phones and crumpled up newspaper is scattered all around. More props will reveal themselves throughout the show.

The hour that follows can best be described as cleverly organised chaos. This is a frenetic, high-energy, hilarious show, with a underlying commentary on masculinity.

Hamish and Ryan are the fuq boiz we know and love to hate. With one who yells his way into our hearts and the other one who superficially (but actually genuinely) charms, Hamish and Ryan perfectly complement each other’s style of fuq boi. Their comedic chemistry is undeniable. They have us on board with every ridiculous turn of the show. They are masters of their style.

Highlights of the show are the audience interactions – when they work; lowlights are when they don’t.

Over the hour we see the Fuq Boiz becoming self aware. They know their privilege. Their ‘diversity check’ of the audience at the beginning of the show was an early nod to this.

We are rewarded with a big reveal at the end that lets us know, these boiz are feminist as fuq. Fuq Boiz: Resurrection is a delightful evolution of boiz to men.
