Newtown Community Centre is the ideal venue for this show, where laughter yoga and family celebrations have imbued the atmosphere with warmth and affinity.
Billy McGrath greets his audience like old friends, as indeed most of them are. Several are even called forth to join in the music, add more detail to stories, and give opinions. Billy’s Mum gives several opinions unsolicited, which leads to an interesting exchange of views.
I don’t know Billy myself, but I can tell that this is not unusual as everyone takes it in their stride, and enjoys the music and the stories. His folk songs are all from the heart, rendered simply on a classical guitar. Further accompaniments include cello, drums and harmonies by members of the audience.
This is an evening of entertainment more related to a ceilidh than a concert, and I enjoyed it, as did everyone else.
