An eyebrow filled fantastasm of success
Review by Pip E-Lysaah 20th Feb 2014
An Operatic Cabaret – An eyebrow filled fantastasm of success – An true understanding of ‘that expression is written on your face’.
If you missed Geraldine Quinn in Stranger, then you missed an outstanding performance from a comedic siren. I haven’t seen facial expressions like that since Tim Curry in Rocky Horror Picture Show. Her eyebrows alone gave you every emotion and word of song.
An atmospheric start led to a voice from the heavens. Geraldine brought an alien character to life with only a black stage, lighting and her operatic rock stylings.
Ok so my less-theatre inclined companion was a little concerned when Geraldine started some people-stroking audience interaction, but by the end of the evening there was a smile and chuckle coming from that initially perturbed face. Safe to say this was an event you could take any office worker through to CEO to, and have them enjoy.
Geraldine interspaced (no that is not a typo) her golden voice and clever lyrics with witty commentaries and interactions. Fantastic use of media, between the simple, yet oh so effective lighting, the smoke and voiceovers this one-person stage act had me impressed.
I’m still chortling and singing “mangled” to myself.
