They don’t know what they want, or who they want it from, but they’ll keep swiping right until they find out.
What piece of advice would you give yourself if you could go back to (or stand back from) your twenties? Chances are these women aren’t following it… Swipe Right is about the mistakes women make in their 20s and the friends who are there to catch them. Make sure you come early, as YOUR real-life (anonymous) advice and romantic mishaps will inspire the characters and story of each show. Performed by an ensemble cast of NZIF 2018 improvisors.
Director Camilla Percy (AU) has directed, performed, taught and trained in improvisation both around Australia and internationally. She originally trained with ImproMafia which inspired her to seek out study under Keith Johnstone, and has since taught and directed her original format, Swipe Right, at the Improvention festival in Canberra and the Shanghai Improv Festival in 2016.

Move over Carrie. Swipe right is better than Sex in the City.
This improv format is named after a Tinder function. The premise may sound like a vehicle for smut jokes, and while that promise is delivered on what is not expected is the astonishingly rich, multifaceted, heartfelt relationships and character development. It tears at the heartstrings and leaves the crowd in tears of laughter leading to the first standing ovation of the NZ Improv Festival.
Four friends support each other through their dating escapades, alternating date scenes and group scenes in the characters’ flat. The dates are portrayed by characters sitting on chairs at the front of stage facing unseen dates.
The characters are diverse in their attitudes, motivations and methods. The players stay emotionally grounded, accepting each other’s endowments even when it makes their characters hugely flawed. The dates inform the gossip sessions at the flat and vice versa, which allows the players to continuously platform while advancing their arcs at a breakneck speed.
The cast are inspiring and their play and interplay represents the highest echelon of improvisation.
