HELPING NZ COMEDY REACH IT’S CULTURAL QUOTA!

Stars of 2007’s "Ethnic Cleansing" – decided that one time was just not enough. These golden boys of comedy have returned for yet another festival season of laughter and merriment.

Just when you thought New Zealand comedy was reaching its cultural quota limit The Ethnic Ultimatum has returned with an incandescent fusion of comedic style one can expect from this power trio. With humour as diverse as their ethnic backgrounds, no subject is safe.

The Ethnic Ultimatum is an original comedy show which is part of the New Zealand International Comedy festival. The show is written and produced by Ruven Govender, Nathan Matthews and Masud Milas. These boys first burst onto the scene with an epic show in the "Class Comedians" showcase of 2004. They returned a year later with an impressive performance in the show "The Graduates".

They made a triumphant reprise with their brand new show "Ethnic Cleansing". Running on the success of "Ethnic Cleansing" the boys decided to return with "Ethnic Cleansing – The Second Coming." Due to last year’s success and sell out season they’ve decided to return with a brand new spin on last year’s concept.

Catch these three comedic amigos before they truly hit the big time. It won’t be long before they’re household names – so get in before ticket prices go up!

Guaranteed laughter

Review by Jessie Kollen 01st May 2008

It’s the 21st Century, the streets are rife with crime, and three coons stand on patrol. The Coon Squad, kicking ass and taking names.

The Ethnic Ultimatum are three short, young comedians from different ethnic backgrounds. This gives them the excuse to make as many jokes about themselves as they want, and that’s what they do, with huge success.

Nathan: half Māori, so he makes Māori jokes.  Msud, half black, so he makes black jokes, and Ruven, an Indian, which means he is allowed to make black jokes and Indian jokes.

The show starts with a short film the guys have made, the film is hilarious, and although it breaks the ice nicely for them, they could have carried off the hour long performance without it.  Maybe if they made some ‘short man’ jokes as well, that would fill in the time.

No, but seriously, they stick with the ethnic jokes, that’s the theme of the show and they certainly are guaranteed laughter.

But getting easy laughs from popular humour is not as easy as it looks, and these ethnic guys deserved every bit of the lavish applause they receive.  I reckon they are the ultimate in ethnic, and I think you will too.
