“Come and see our bright stars in the making!”
The Dancer’s Wardrobe generously sponsors children preparing for and performing in The Tempo Dance Festival. These children are part of a wide community of performers and viewers, an integral part of Auckland’s festival celebrating dance. An extensive range of dancers, parents, teachers, coaches from diverse backgrounds and regions all around Auckland helped to make this a valued component in dance communities in Aotearoa. This is clearly important and widely celebrated, by what audiences experienced on Sunday 9 October.
Performing to an almost full house, close to one hundred children danced “jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, contemporary and everything in between” with skill, focus, eloquence and commitment. The dancers and their dances were playful, inventive and beautiful. Much of the choreography was challenging. The performers met the challenge. They performed with precision, with grace, with attitude and generally, they stunned the audience.
I took five year old son. He loved it. My son asked questions for each piece and commented on the musicality of these dancers and how many there were performing. He observed the range in genres and he asked what countries each of the pieces were from. There truly was an extraordinary range of national forms of dance, genres and music. This supported my confidence in the effort, awareness and exceptionally hard work that dance schools, teachers and parents are putting into their children’s dance education. FANTASTIC. And these young dancers are having fun. They are skilled, talented, musical and confident performers….please, keep on dancing!
Audiences should look forward to The Dancer’s Wardrobe sponsoring The Kids Show next year. Support the celebration of dance and diversity again in 2017!
